Man City 2-3 Town Sat 25th Nov 2000 18:29 Town made heavy weather of what should have been an easy victory over Manchester City. The Blues went three up inside an hour, but allowed the up to then thoroughly poor City side get back into it with two late goals. |
McGreal Naylor Injuries Fri 24th Nov 2000 10:22 As expected John McGreal is a huge doubt for tomorrow's clash with fellow promoted club Manchester City. McGreal damaged his thigh when colliding with a post when heading the ball from danger in the second half of Monday's live Sky game with Coventry. He is very unlikely to be fit as there his thigh is still painfully swollen and it looks likely that Titus Bramble will take his place. With Manu Thetis limping off with an injury in the reserves on Wednesday and Wanyne Brown also injured there could be a recall to the bench for player-coach Tony Mowbray. He has yet to appear this season, but he looks more likely to get a call if a centre-half is required on the bench than youngster Justin Miller. |
Wright Worry for Town Mon 20th Nov 2000 10:38 Jermaine Wright has emerged as Town's main worry ahead of Town's Sky clash with Coventry City tonight. He missed training yesterday suffering from a flu-bug and George Burlet has said that he will see how Wright is today before making any decision on him. |
Town-Charlton News Fri 10th Nov 2000 10:35 Town have few worries ahead of the clash with Charlton at Portman Road. Several players have missed training this week, but all are expected to be in the running for places. The biggest worry was Jim Magilton, but an X-ray earlier in the week showed that there was no serious problem with his ankle injury. Mark Venus has also suffered with an ankle injury, while Richard Naylor has again felt pain from his knees. This has led to speculation that James Scowcroft could be offered a recall up front with Marcus Stewart. Titus Bramble, left out of the England U21 squad yesterday, looks likely to be on the bench for Town while Mark Venus and John McGreal continue to impress at the centre of defence. |
Town England Connection Rears its Head Again Wed 01st Nov 2000 11:37 Rather surprisingly it has emerged that new England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has an Ipswich Town connection. Although never a Town manager, unlike two of his England predecessors, Eriksson spent a sizable anount of time watching Town in the seventies. The then manager of IFK Gothenburg travelled to England to try to get some insight into the English game and with Portman Road a temple of one of the finest examples of the English game at the time, as well as being closest to Felixstowe, it was here that he watched his football. |
Bradford 0 - 2 Ipswich Sat 21st Oct 2000 17:54 Town won their third away game on the trot with a late Jamie Clapham freekick adding to a first half Dan Petrescu own goal. Town lined up as they did last week which meant a place on the bench once more for Titus Bramble. |
Titus on Bench Fri 20th Oct 2000 11:04 Town have no real injury worries ahead of tomorrow's away clash with Bradford. Titus Bramble is now more fully recovered from his cold, but is likely to be on the bench as against West Ham. Mark Venus and John McGreal are expected to be the centre-halves. Jermaine Wright and Matt Holland had minor knocks from the Hammers game, but both will be OK for tomorrow. Wright's groin has settled down, while Holland's ankle problem has recovered. |
Arsenal to Field Reserves Fri 29th Sep 2000 10:57 Town are likely to face an understrength Arsenal side in October 30th's Worthington Cup tie at Highbury. The North Londers warn fans on their tickets that they are unlikely to field a full stregth side in the competition, although like any of the major players in the Premier League even their reserves are pretty fearsome. Town manager When the suggestion of Arsenal putting out a less than full strength side George Burley said "what's a weak Arsenal side?" a reference to the fact that their bench contains several high profile stars. Burley added that the draw was "a good one for the fans". |
Stewart Venus Out Tue 26th Sep 2000 10:33 Town will be without both Mark Venus and Marcus Stewart for tonight's crunch second leg Worthington Cup match with Millwall. Town's Saturday goal hero Marcus Stewart has a groin strain, while Venus is suffering from a strained hamstring. |
Scowy Worry Fri 22nd Sep 2000 10:41 Town striker James Scowcroft is the Blues' latest worry for Saturday's clash with Arsenal. The Stanton-based player bruised his foot in training and joins Fabian Wilnis as aserious concern for tomorrow. Wilnis jarred his knee during the 2-0 defeat at Millwall on Tuesday and along with Scowcroft missed training yesterday. If Scowcroft misses out it is likely that the Johnson/Stewart partnership will be given another try, while Gary Croft looks likely to deputise for the injured Wilnis. |
